Frequently asked questions

Will converting to PNG improve the image quality?

No — it won't remove JPEG compression artifacts already baked into the source file, but it also won't add any new ones. From this point forward, no further quality is lost by editing or re-saving.

Why is the PNG file bigger than my original JPG?

PNG is a lossless format, so it can't compress as aggressively as JPG's lossy algorithm. A larger file size is the normal, expected tradeoff for zero further quality loss.

Does this add a transparency layer to my JPG?

No — a JPG has no alpha channel to begin with, so the resulting PNG is fully opaque, just like the source.

What's the largest file size I can convert?

Files up to 20 MB are supported.
