Frequently asked questions

Why can't I just rename the file extension instead?

HEIC and JPG are fundamentally different compressed formats — renaming the extension doesn't change the underlying bytes, and the file simply won't open correctly. A real decode-and-re-encode is required.

Will I lose photo quality?

A small amount — this is re-encoded at 90% JPEG quality specifically to minimize that loss, but any format change involves some tradeoff.

Does this work with Live Photos?

Only the still image is converted — HEIC Live Photos also include a short video component that this tool doesn't process.

Is there a size limit for HEIC uploads?

Files up to 20 MB are supported.
